I AM…

Grounded in Social Justice and Diversity, I am a highly interactive, individualized, and flexible speaker, consultant, trainer, and facilitator focusing on gender and white privilege, specializing in audiences of all knowledge levels.

My style:
As I be-bopped around the country, I have realized a few things.

  1. From the conservative conversations on my grandmother's porch in Texas to the bustling streets of New York City, there is social justice work to be done and I believe I am up for the challenge.
  2. I use A LOT of humor in my workshops, trainings, and keynote speech to keep the attention of participants and entertain them. It is at the end, as I am stepping away, that participants realize I have snuck in there, undercover, and taught them something.
  3. To be a good teacher, I must ALWAYS be willing to learn. I am an eternal student. I read, write, and attend trainings and workshops to maintain my skills and update my craft. However, the most important thing I do is LISTEN. I have learned more from my audiences than they will ever learn from me.

Booking me:
Part of my job history has been bringing in trainers and speakers. This has been very useful as I build up my contact base, consulting gigs, and speaking engagements. I am VERY flexible in scheduling, pricing, and what I like to call, getting you more bang for your buck. I would prefer to do more than one type of engagement while I am there. I am low maintenance; do not have any contract riders or expectations that are out of the ordinary (Remembering speakers that required navel oranges and Evian water backstage).

I need to eat, sleep, and get to you. I need a signed contract before the scheduled event that both the purchaser and I agree on every detail beforehand via a conversation. I need the honorarium at the point of service unless otherwise agreed upon and noted in the contract. I love doing this kind of work, and I feel that my honorarium pricing scale reflects what I am worth as well as what makes sense for your budget. I like campus housing and dining halls as well as pot lucks and motels. I require a lot of bottled water and laughter.–Jessica

Block Booking:

By bringing Jessica to your campus when she is already in your region, you save hundreds of dollars. Why? She shares savings in travel and take off a flat rate for each of the campuses that joins a block of schools. If you are interested in booking Jess, contact your area (local or statewide) high schools, universities, colleges, community colleges, associations, etc., and see if block booking options are an option. (Flat rate varies depending on the number of schools)

How this really works:
Jess flies into a major airport and stays in a centrally located hotel. She can drive up to a 3-hour radius, fly in and out of the airport, or be picked up at the hotel for a number of presentations while sharing the expenses with everyone in the block booking deal.
